Lakeside Memories: A Family Portrait in Paint
Meg and Bob envisioned a grand painting of their annual family picnic at their Lake Cottage – 24 family members, a sprawling picnic table, a shimmering lake, and the warm glow of string lights. The challenge? Weave all these elements from their photos into a cohesive 24x36 canvas.
Using Photoshop, I blended the photos into a digital mockup, a blueprint for their dream. This allowed us to fine-tune the composition before I began painting.
I transferred the design to canvas, starting with a light sketch and underpainting. The months that followed were a collaborative process of review and refinement with Meg and Bob. Each detail, from facial expressions to food on the table, was carefully considered.
This painting became a personal journey. The scale, complexity, and emotional weight of capturing such a significant family event made it a favorite of 2024. It pushed me creatively.
Seeing Meg and Bob's joy upon receiving the finished painting was the greatest reward. The painting, now a centerpiece in their home, immortalizes their lakeside reunion, a cherished moment brought to life with color, light, and a touch of magic.
