This course is designed for beginner artists interested in learning the basic fundamentals of drawing and painting. Students will leave this workshop with a finished painting of lemons in a bowl and general knowledge to continue their drawing and painting journey! The skills and step-by-step methods to bringing a painting to life on canvas will be valuable for future creation beyond this workshop.
-
Learn and draw the VALUE Scale, discuss composition, and explore drawing using the GRID method. Undercoat canvas with Cadmium Red paint. And if time allows, we will draw the lemons on the canvas to prepare for day two.
-
Using all the tools we learned from drawing on day one, students will transfer the Lemon drawing onto the 16×20 canvas, which has been undercoated with cadmium red paint. Students will start the painting using the values to block in the shapes. As students continue to paint, we will discuss color theory and using the color wheel. Students will learn to keep the composition simple, using shapes, value contrast, color, and temperature. The instructor encourages students to find their own style using dynamic brush strokes.
All materials are provided, including drawing & painting materials:
Reference photos, grid insert sleeve, pencils, eraser, sketch paper, 16 x 20 stretched canvas, cadmium red light (undercoat), color wheel, acrylic paints, brushes, aprons, tabletop easels, step by step handouts
